Webcomic
Cory Doctorow, van Boing Boing, maar ook actief als science fiction schrijver en vooral als beschermer van de publieke ruimte van het internet en de blogosfeer in de strijd tegen een al te strak copyright systeem, heeft weer een tip: xkcd, A webcomic of romance, sarcasm, math, and language. Een comic-tekenaar, Randall Munroe, met de volgende waarschuwing op zijn site:
Warning: this comic occasionally contains strong language (which may be unsuitable for children), unusual humor (which may be unsuitable for adults), and advanced mathematics (which may be unsuitable for liberal-arts majors).
Hij is blijkbaar nogal bekend in de States: een voormalige werknemer van NASA, afgestudeerd aan de Christopher Newport University in Virginia, met een eigen wikipedia-pagina, en dat laatste dat wil zeggen dat je eigenlijk al onsterfelijk bent.
Dit zegt hij over zichzelf:
“I’m just this guy, you know? I’m a CNU graduate with a degree in physics. Before starting xkcd, I worked on robots at NASA’s Langley Research Center in Virginia. As of June 2007 I live in Massachusetts. In my spare time I climb things, open strange doors, and go to goth clubs dressed as a frat guy so I can stand around and look terribly uncomfortable. At frat parties I do the same thing, but the other way around.”
XKCD schijnt niets te betekenen, in ieder geval geen acronym of zo. Een mooi voorbeeld van zijn humor:
